    Invitational entry means the group stage is competitive from the first shift. If your club is not at national-programme level your players will have a hard weekend. The knockout bracket is seeded honestly.

    As a parent travelling from Ireland I found the information pack thorough and accurate. January in Gothenburg is not a holiday. Bring more layers than you think and expect the older halls to be unheated in the stands.

    Sleeping in school dormitories is not luxurious and it is the reason a club from Lithuania can afford to send two age groups. Five games, full-size ice, neutral crews. The only friction was customs paperwork for equipment, which is on us not them.

    Everything is where the programme says it will be. Neutral officials, IIHF-size ice in all six halls, and the dormitory option meant our trip cost per player was under 300 euro all in. This is the standard other operators should be measured against.
